we need to define what success is. Everyone has a

can gain. Some others can measure success by how
much they can contribute to the well-being of their
families or the community and, generally speaking,
society. There are many other definitions of success,
but primarily success is associated with becoming
wealthy, well-known, and respected in career life.
However, it doesn’t always have to be that way.
Being successful can basically mean being satisfied
with oneself and one’s career. It can mainly mean
leading a happy life decent with oneself. For most people, a successful person is someone who
feels that their work and life, in general, offer an exceptionally high degree of satisfaction. But
how does a person reach that state of life? How does one achieve this feeling of satisfaction with
life and career? Successful people consistently do two things; They use their natural abilities in
their work and set career and life goals. In other words, successful people choose careers where
they can use their natural skills or do what comes naturally to them. For instance, successful
teachers are people who instinctively know how to help people learn and how to contribute
to their education. The most helpful doctors know how to listen to people and understand their
health issues. Successful people know where they start from and what direction they want to
give their lives and careers. Their initial focus can be as simple and wonderful as raising a happy
family. So, first of all, you should ask yourself these questions; What are your natural abilities?
What are your career and life goals? If you have direct and precise answers to these questions,
you are on the right path to a successful career and life.

                                               Biography of a Mountain Runner

When you imagine mountain climbers climbing Mount Everest, what possibly comes to mind are
teams of climbers with Sherpa guides who lead them to the top of the mountain, equipped with
oxygen masks, supplies and tents. And in most cases, you'd be right, as 90 per cent of climbers
use oxygen to reach the top of Everest at 8,850 metres above sea level. The thin air at high
altitudes makes most people breathless at 3,500 metres, and most climbers use oxygen when
they pass 7,000 metres. A usual climbing group will have 10 to 15 people, with an almost equal
number of guides, and they'll spend weeks getting to the peak.
However, ultra-distance and mountain runner Kilian Jornet Burgada climbed to the top of the
mountain in May 2017 alone. He didn't use an oxygen mask or fixed ropes for climbing. He
succeeded in doing so in 26 hours with food poisoning. Five days later, he did it again. This
time it took him only 17 hours. Born in 1987, Kilian has been training hard with a lot of effort for
Everest throughout his life. That means his entire life. He grew up two thousand metres above
sea level in the Pyrenees in the ski resort of Les de Cerdanya in Catalonia, in the northeast of
Spain. Kilian was on skis when other children his age were learning to walk. At only one and a
half years old, he did a five-hour mountain walk with his mother. He left his peers further behind
when he climbed his first mountain. He took part in a competition in his first cross-country ski
race at the age of three.
Today, he does as many as 1,140 hours of endurance training a year. He also does strength
training, technical workouts, and specific training the week before a race. He sleeps only seven
hours a night. Kilian Jornet seems to be a superhuman. His heartbeat while resting is extremely
low at 33 beats per minute. An average man's heartbeat is 60 per minute, or an athlete's
heartbeat is 40 per minute. He also breathes more efficiently than ordinary people, taking
in more oxygen per breath. He has a speedy recovery time after exercise because his body
quickly breaks down lactic acid, which is the acid in muscles that causes pain after exercise. His
childhood in the mountains and genetics provide these to him physically. However, his mental
strength sets him apart. He often challenges himself to see how long he can endure difficult
conditions to understand what his body and mind can cope with. Kilian's achievements exceed
the average person because he even finds time to record his career on his blog and writes a
              book about his experiences.

A Read the questions and discuss them with a partner.
                 1. Do you have a favourite celebrity? What do you know about them?

                 2. What do you think is necessary for a person to become a role model celebrity?
3, Do you think a famous person has a complicated life? Why?/Why not?

Read the text and answer questions 1 to 3.

Are Celebrities Good Or Bad For You?

Celebrities are a part of our lives these days. They are on TV, in magazines, and online. Is the
interest in famous people harmless fun, or is it wrong for us? How many people are genuinely
obsessed with these modern media idols? And can their fame harm celebrities? Studies prove
that the great majority of teenagers do not worship celebrities. Researchers have identified three
different types of fans. About 15% of young people have an interest in social entertainment. They
love chatting about their favourite stars with friends, and this does not appear to do any harm.

Muestra editorial solo para fines didácticos – Prohibida su venta MUESTRA EDITORIAL
Another 5% of young people feel they have an intense personal interest in a celebrity. Sometimes
these young people see a celebrity as a soulmate and find that they are often thinking about
this celebrity. They say they do this even when they don’t want to. These people are more at
risk of depression or anxiety. For instance, if girls in this group idolise a female star with a body
they consider perfect, they are likelier to be upset with their bodies. Another 2% of young people
have a pathological interest in celebrities. They say they would spend several thousand pounds
on a paper plate the star had used. These are the people who are in most danger of being
              deeply harmed.

What about the celebrities themselves? A recent study in the US tried to measure narcissism or
extreme self-centeredness. Researchers observed 200 stars and 200 successful young adults using
the same questionnaire. As expected, the celebrities were significantly more narcissistic than the
young adults, and both groups were much more selfish than the rest of the population. Four kinds
of celebrities were included in the result of the questionnaire. The most selfish were those who
had become famous through reality TV shows. The second were comedians, who scored highest
on feelings of superiority. Then came actors, and the least narcissistic were musicians.

So, we can conclude that very successful or famous people tend to be narcissists. They are liable
to be ruthless workaholics who seek themselves. We can also see from celebrity magazines that
they are often desperate and lonely. And as a result, they make horrible role models.

                                           Weird But Delicious Food Combinations

Muestra editorial solo para fines didácticos – Prohibida su venta
Most people like trying various food items. However, some food combinations may sound
weird and gross. Although they taste amazing, they may be extraordinary when you first hear
them. Actually, cooking is all about experimenting and most people are keen on trying different
food experiments, like eating strange combinations of food items. They may sound gross but
taste delicious. For instance, eating apple slices with cheese may sound odd, but people prefer
eating this combination as it is so yummy. So, you should try some strange but delicious food
combinations if you are interested in weird food combinations.
The first one is ice cream and popcorn. It may be the weirdest combination you might have
ever heard about. However, it tastes great, as many people have tried it before. The taste of
savoury and sweet together is extraordinary. Some people think it is bliss. Grilled pineapple and
masala is the second one. It is a snack for starters that can be a perfect fit when you want to
eat something sweet and spicy together. You can grill pineapple and add some Indian masala
over it. This snack is easy to prepare and also mouth-watering. The sweet taste of pineapple goes
well with spices. Also, it is a healthy and nutritious option as a snack. Then there is orange juice
and Oreo. Many people prefer eating Oreos with orange juice. It is known to taste amazing. It
also soothes your taste buds. The cookie's crunchiness and the juice taste go hand in hand.
If the food combinations you have read so far attract
your attention, you should try pizza with honey, too.
Pineapple on pizza is too mainstream now, and the
new weird combination trending in the pizza food
joints is honey on pizzas. Honey garlic dip is one of
the everyday food items that taste delicious. Pizza is
the most uncomplicated food item to combine some
delicious veggies or chicken with honey. You can
even use honey to add to the pizza base. And finally,
the last strange option is chocolate sauce on pizza.
Recently, one famous brand that sells pizza came up
with this weird combination. Their combination is all
about savoury and sweet togehter. Having a cheese
pizza with chocolate sauce is one of the most popular
odd combinations you can ever experiment with.

weddings and birthdays are some of these important
events. For example, Chinese people have a tradition

good luck and happiness. In Spain, people eat twelve

months. But it is challenging to eat twelve grapes in
twelve seconds, so people usually have a mouth full

to honeymoon, the holiday a couple goes on after their wedding.
And then there are birthday ceremonies. When a child is born in China, his father gives his
friends and family red eggs. He gives an even number of eggs for a girl and an odd number
for a boy. Celebrating birthdays with a party started in Europe in the Middle Ages. People were
afraid of ghosts and evil spirits on their birthdays. So, their friends and family came to visit them
with presents to stop the possible harms of ghosts and evil spirits. In Mexico, people fill a paper
animal with candies. Children close their eyes and hit the animal until the candies fall out. Then
                  everybody eats the candies together.

That's why the fungus has spread to Australia, the Middle East and Mozambique. Scientists are
working on solving the problem by genetically modifying the Cavendish banana. Two modified
plants that have remained resistant for three years have been successfully grown. However,
some experts suggest this is only a sophisticated version of the same temporary solution the
original Cavendish banana provided. Suppose that the newly developed bananas are planted in
the same monocultures as the Cavendish and the bananas before. In that case, the risk is that
another strain of the disease may rise to threaten the modified plants too.

                                             Music As An International Language

Music plays an essential role in our lives and eliminates differences among different cultures and
generations. It is the symbol of harmony and reflects humanity. Therefore, the notion that music
helps bring people from multiple cultures and generations together is a genuine opinion.
One of the reasons music has the power to eliminate the barriers among different countries
and cultures is that people enjoy listening to music from every part of the world. Music speaks
the same language, which embodies human emotion, joy, love and sorrow. It does not need
interpretation to be enjoyed and understood since it touches people's hearts and minds. No
matter what language people speak or understand, they appreciate the melody and depth of
music. Thus, people of all ages can enjoy the same music together. For instance, some popular
music in a foreign language in any country signifies how this music speaks to people's minds and
hearts rather than just a human language.
Moreover, nations impact each other with the type of music they produce and their musical
instruments. This also reduces cultural differences and brings people from different cultures and
ages to a common platform. For example, many music genres people enjoy nowadays are
derived from multiple nations and cultures. In addition, it is a crucial fact that people from all
these cultures enjoy and love these genres of music.
Music is a form of art enjoyed by every nation and all nationalities. It helps reduce the generation
and age gaps among people. An example of this is when the national anthem is played in
a country, children, adults and elders, that is, people of all age groups, all tuned to the same
emotion and patriotism. Their unity is stronger than ever. The same can be observed when
music evokes other emotions like love, sadness, etc. Besides, some music categories are loved
by everyone. The listeners feel a sense of togetherness. This is almost absent in other art forms.
Therefore, music eliminates not only age but also generation and cultural gaps. As a globally
accepted and excellent art form, music improves our lives and strengthens the connections and
communication between us, regardless of our backgrounds, culture and age.

Most films begin as an idea. It might be a director's

or writer's idea. However, the producer needs
convincing to start making a film. The producer is
the businessperson who finds the money to make
the film. The producer will organize the budget
and decide how much it is worth spending on
the film. The producer will decide who will be the
director of the film. This is a vital decision since
the director is the person who will be in charge
of the whole cast and crew. The producer will
try to find somebody who has previously made
                                                                 similar films as the director.
Most importantly, the producer wants someone they can trust. The person they choose should
do a good job. Then, the producer and director will choose the other people to work on the film
and decide on the cast members. Actors generally become associated with a particular kind of
film in the public's mind, and casting an actor in a different type of role can be risky. Auditions
and screen tests will be held to make final decisions. After this stage, rehearsals will begin. As the
actors develop their characters, the director will make important decisions about other important
points, for example, location. The locations where the film is shot are significant and should be
chosen carefully. The film will also be storyboarded. This means that they draw pictures of all the
critical scenes. Special effects will be arranged, and costumes will be storyboarded, with images
of all the key moments. Special effects will be prepared, and costumes will be designed. This pre-
production stage can take quite a long time because it might not be possible to change things
later. The shooting can take weeks to a year, or even more. The actors and actresses spend a lot
of time waiting for everything to be ready and correct. Life at the Oscars might seem fantastic,
but life on a film set can be stressful and tedious. Once filming is over, post-production begins.
This is the stage where all the film elements are brought together. The film is edited to tell a
straightforward story, and all of the special effects are made perfect. Then, music is added to
emphasize the excitement or the feeling of particular moments in the film. Lastly, the film makes
its way into cinemas. Once the process is over, the financial backers will want to know where the
money has gone. Pre-production and post-production costs will account for almost fifty per cent,
while the director and crew will take another ten per cent. This leaves around thirty per cent of
the film's total cost to be spent on actual filming.

                                                     Personality and Health

Studies have been providing evidence that health is linked to personality. However, until recently,
the relationship has not impacted how health care is delivered. There are several reasons for this.
Several health workers doubt whether there is a direct link between health and personality or
whether it's just a coincidence. Some feel it is their professional duty to treat all patients the same
way. Other health workers argue that delivering health services according to patients' personalities
will have minimal effect. Therefore, it isn't worth the effort. However, some psychologists believe
that applying different procedures to people with different characteristics could significantly and
              positively affect health.
Personality research has, in recent years, focused on the models of personality types, measuring
how neurotic, friendly, open to experience, agreeable and conscientious a person is. These
personality types have been studied concerning health. For example, moral people are less likely
to smoke, drink alcohol or be inactive. However, in other cases, the relationship is not so clear. For
example, neurotic behaviour has been proved in some studies to increase the risk of death and
in others to protect people from illnesses. In others, it has been proved to have no link to health.

Personality should also be considered while texting messages, providing information and guidance
to specific patients. Health information is mostly available in various forms, such as digital, audio,
etc., to be appropriate and accessible for different users, like people with reading difficulties.
Research has also shown that, by identifying other patients' motivations for treatment and then
corresponding with them to reflect their motivations, patients will become more involved in their
treatment, compared to when the same messages are sent to everyone.
Until recently, the focus of personality-health research has been to find the link between
characteristics and health. It has had very little practical application. Therefore, health workers
have not engaged deeply with it. However, by suggesting and implementing practices to engage
patients with different personalities, the relationship between psychology researchers and health
workers could improve, along with the general public's health.
